As Nigeria joins in celebrating World Contraception Day, stakeholders will gathering in Ibadan for ICFP’s first satellite event in the country
The African Development and Empowerment Foundation (AfricanDEF) will gather over 200 policymakers, civil society members and family planning advocates for World Contraception Day Event.
On World Contraception Day 2018, AfricanDEF is convening community birth attendants to encourage their work as family planning advocates for pregnant women in their care. The event will support the creation of new partnerships and networks to drive family planning, including a memorandum of understanding between the state ministries of health, Association of community birth attendants and AfricanDEF to promote family planning for women in rural communities.
AfricanDEF’s event is one of more than 15 ICFP satellite events being held around the globe on World Contraception Day. It will be the first ICFP satellite event ever held in Nigeria.
Around the world, these satellite events are being hosted to ignite local conversations in advance of the International Conference on Family Planning. The 2018 ICFP will be the fifth global gathering of policymakers and researchers, young people, faith leaders and family planning advocates. Held in Kigali, Rwanda from 12-15 November 2018, the event is organized around the theme “Investing for a Lifetime of Returns.” The 2018 ICFP will highlight the extensive and far-reaching social and economic benefits of family planning investments — for individuals, families and countries.
AfricanDEF event speakers will include: the Oyo State Association of Community Birth Attendants, led by Prophetess Olaide Eyinju-Jesu, Oyo State Honourable Commisioner for Health, Dr Azeez Adeduntan, Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Mrs. Atinuke Osunkoya, Director of Medical Services in Oyo State, Dr Popoola, Family Planning Coordinator at Oyo State Primary Health Care Board, Mrs Adeola Awakan, Oyo State Coordinator for Nigeria Urban Reproductive Health Initiative, Mrs Akinso Stella.
